UPDATE 3/20/07:One of the more sought after defenders remaining in the unrestricted free agent pool, Edwards on Saturday reached agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs on a three-year contract worth about $14 million.

UPDATE 3/9/07:
Donnie Edwards, an 11-year veteran who has led the San Diego Chargers in tackles all five seasons he has been there, is on the Packers' radar and could wind up visiting soon, according to an NFL source. Various media reports have indicated that the Packers are involved along with the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

Born April 6, 1973 in San Diego ... Donnie and wife, Kathryn, reside in Rancho Santa Fe ... Since returning to his hometown, Edwards has dedicated himself to providing for area youth. One of the first projects he committed to was the construction of a new weight room for his alma mater, Chula Vista High School. The $40,000 project included new weights, flooring, mirrors and commemorative keepsakes from Edwards’ career. Last year, Edwards was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame and in June 2000, his number was retired by the school. He has also been inducted into the Sweetwater Union School District’s Hall of Fame, which recognizes excellence in all professional fields, including athletics ... Edwards is working to deliver his message about physical fitness countywide by creating a program called "Jump for Life." Its goal is to help tackle obesity. Edwards is also the executive commissioner of the San Diego chapter of the "After-School All-Stars," a program created by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to give inner-city youth positive alternatives to drugs, gangs and violence through after-school programs ... Every year around Father’s Day, Edwards hosts "Dad’s Day with Donnie" at Sea World. It is an opportunity for Edwards and other professional athletes to spend a day with kids who don’t have a father figure in their lives ... The founder of the "Donnie Edwards Best Defense Foundation," Edwards is actively involved with the Boy Scouts, the Boys and Girls Clubs, San Diego’s Sharp Hospital and Read Across America.
