UPDATE 2/25/08: According to a league source, the Eagles' sights had been set on Seattle cornerback Marcus Trufant before the Seahawks placed the franchise tag on him Thursday. Oakland's Nnamdi Asomugha also was tagged, leaving Samuel as the only truly elite cornerback on the open market.
Philadelphia Inquirer

UPDATE 2/25/08:
Coach Romeo Crennel told the Boston Globe the Browns might check into Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel if he makes it to the market next Friday. Crennel coached him in New England. Problem is, Samuel will be seeking a blockbuster deal.
Cleveland Plain Dealer

UPDATE 2/24/08:
Word from the combine last night was that Samuel is looking for a 10-year, $100 million deal with $30 million guaranteed up front. That would be more than the megacontract corner Nate Clements (eight years, $80 million with $22 million up front) struck with the 49ers last year.
Boston Herald

UPDATE 2/15/08:
But the key to (Nate) Clements's deal with relation to Samuel is the $28.9 million in base salary and bonuses Clements can make in the first three years. It will likely take something in that range for the Patriots to retain Samuel, although Shavers said he and Samuel haven't settled on numbers yet.
