UPDATE 3/20/07:The Texans have signed veteran outside linebacker Shawn Barber to a three-year contract. The deal is officially going to be announced later today.

2005: After being activated from the PUP list on 11/25/05, played in 3 games on special teams before being inactive for the final three games of the season

2004: Started the season’s first eight games at ROLB … Finished with 42 tackles (27 solo) with two for a loss and a sack (-4.0 yards) ... Also had five passes defensed, a forced fumble, two QB pressures and an INT (10 yards).

2003: Started 16 games at ROLB...Ranked second on the squad with 141 tackles (105 solo), including four for loss...Tied for second on the team with a career-high 5.0 sacks (-31.0 yards)...Also had two forced fumbles, one INT (28 yards), five QB pressures and five passes defensed...Started his first game in a Chiefs uniform vs. San Diego (9/7), recording seven tackles and a team-high two passes defensed.

2002: Started all 16 games at the right outside “WILL” linebacker position for Eagles...Produced 119 tackles (69 solo), a sack (-1.0 yard) and two interceptions for 81 yards, including a career-long 80-yard TD...Also had a career-high three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, seven passes defensed and five QB pressures.

1999: Opened all 16 Redskins games for the first time in his career...Totaled a career-high 148 tackles (101 solo), a sack (-7.0 yards), six QB pressures, five passes defensed, three forced fumbles and eight special teams tackles...Added two INTs for 70 yards with a TD...Returned a Kerry Collins interception for a 70-yard TD at the N.Y. Giants (9/19).

1998: Saw duty in 16 games (one start) for Redskins, amassing 34 tackles (28 solo), two QB pressures, one interception, two passes defensed and a forced fumble...Added a team-high 15 special teams tackles...Recorded six tackles and a QB pressure in his first NFL start at Seattle (9/20)...Totaled eight solo stops, one QB pressure, his first NFL interception off Jeff George and a forced fumble at Oakland (11/29).

COLLEGE

Shawn began his collegiate career at safety but was moved to linebacker in his sophomore year. He recorded 94 total tackles (56 solo), six sacks, 13 tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble en route to becoming the Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1997 as a senior. He also added three interceptions and on special teams he blocked two kicks. In his four seasons at Richmond, Shawn played in a total of 44 games with 33 starts and totaled 305 tackles, 20 sacks, 30 tackles for a loss, and five interceptions. As a junior, Shawn was an all-American honorable mention by the Associated Press and an all-Yankee Conference first-team selection. Shawn earned Sports Network National Player of the Week honors, along with Yankee Conference and ECAC Player of the Week honors for a career game against The Citadel in his sophomore campaign. He posted 20 tackles, five tackles for a loss, one sack, forced two fumbles and pulled in one interception in a 17-13 victory.

PERSONAL

An all-district and all-region performer as a safety at Hermitage High School in Richmond, Virginia. Despite not playing football until he was a junior, returned three interceptions for touchdowns and averaged over 20.0 yards per catch as a senior. Also earned all-district honors in basketball and lettered once in track. Completed a 10-week internship with Legacy Financial Group of Kansas City during the 2004 off-season. Has served as a spokesperson for the Kansas City Junior League’s “Hooked on Books” campaign since 2003. Raised money for the victims of the September 11th tragedies by guest bartending in Washington-area restaurants. Joins his former prep teammates in the NFL - S Darren Sharper (Green Bay) and LB Jamie Sharper (Houston) - to host a football camp at Hermitage High School. Full name: Shawn William Barber. Married, wife Nicole with two sons, Nicholas (3) and Noah. The Barbers reside in Leawood, Kansas.
